Promoting Energy Transition, Garudafood Uses Electric Motorcycles for Operations

Bekasi, 26 July 2024 – To support the government in achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 and to fulfill its commitment to sustainability, PT Garudafood Putra Putri Jaya Tbk (Garudafood) has officially used electric motorcycles for the operational vehicles of its subsidiary, PT Sinarniaga Sejahtera (SNS). This represents a significant step towards a greener future for the company.

According to PLN's website, electric motorcycles can reduce carbon emissions by up to 40% compared to conventional motorcycles. Specifically, 1 liter of fuel, which produces 2.4 kg of Co2e in conventional motorcycles, is equivalent to 1.5 kWh of electricity, resulting in 1.5 kg of Co2e.

A symbolic inauguration in Bekasi, West Java, launched 40 electric motorcycles. SNS, a subsidiary of Garudafood and a leading national distributor in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry in Indonesia, will use these motorcycles to support its operations.

Fransiskus Johny Soegiarto (CEO of Garudafood) explained that transitioning to electric vehicles is a strategic move for the company aimed at supporting sustainability while simultaneously improving operational efficiency. This initiative is also expected to significantly contribute to a cleaner environment and reduce carbon footprint through the adoption of new and renewable energy (NRE).

Ruli Tobing (President Director of PT SNS) further explained that SNS sales personnel throughout Jabodetabek will utilize the initial phase of electric motorcycles. The launch of the electric motorcycles is expected to motivate salesmen to enhance their productivity and efficiency while carrying out operational activities more practically and contributing positively to the environment.

In this initiative, Garudafood, through SNS, in collaboration with BNI and Volta Group, aims to procure up to 500 electric motorcycles for SNS sales operations. To optimize this, a number of battery swapping stations have been established at various locations throughout Jabodetabek.

Habibie (SNS salesman) said that riding an electric motorcycle is more comfortable than riding a conventional motorcycle. Electric motorcycle adoption is expected to save fuel and simplify maintenance, and the battery swapping stations provided by SNS will further enhance the sales team's productivity.

The adoption of electric motorcycles as operational vehicles aligns with Garudafood's commitment to accelerate the use of new and renewable energy (NRE). Garudafood has also installed Solar PV Rooftops at several of its factories. The first rooftop, which features an installed capacity of 810 kWp, was installed at the Sumedang factory.

Additional Solar PV Rooftops, with a total capacity of 3.1 MWp, will be installed at the Gresik and Pati factories and the Jakarta head Office in 2024.  The Rooftops are projected to reduce emissions by over 3 KTon of CO2/year, equivalent to planting approximately 400,000 trees annually.

Garudafood's commitment aligns with the government's efforts to promote the use of electric vehicles and facilitate the transition to environmentally friendly new and renewable energy (NRE). For more details, please click on the link to the national media news article below:
